OMG OMG Opera!

Tue Jun 16, 2009, 2:35 PM
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!! :iconexcitedplz:

Sorry, I'm excited. I was talking to a friend of mine back in Seattle and somehow we got to talking opera, of which I'm a big fan. I mentioned at some point that I'd always wanted to see The Ring Cycle (aka Der Ring Des Nibelungen) by Richard Wagner, and he said they're performing it at the Seattle Opera in August and there are still tickets for sale. After some squeeing and jumping about, we bought tickets and are going to see it 17th-22nd.

Now, if you don't know, the Seattle Opera is one of the best in the country, and pretty much world renown for their Wagner performances in particular. The opera itself is like 17 hours, and spread over four performances (technically separate operas but one continuous story arc). I'd been to the Seattle Opera a number of times when I lived there, but never managed to see this, partly because it's awfully expensive. I just spent over $1000 dollars on tickets. :paranoid:

If you want to know more about the opera, the Wikipedia article is a good read. In the meantime, I'll be spending the next two months jumping about in anticipation and also pondering what to wear. :excited:

Thanks! :D

Yeah, opera isn't exactly easy listening, it's something that you have to set aside whatever else you're doing and focus on. Not to mention, though the music is the best part, the acting and costumes and everything are great too. And, of course, no stereo is as good as a live orchestra and singers.
:iconlaurart:
Woot! congrats! If you're this excited now you'll have to take a pill before the show

I can't really say I like Opera.
I think I might have found the first big difference between you and me D:
:iconsindae:
Yeah, I'll probably bring a few. =P

No opera? :( Have you ever been to a performance?
:iconthorn-zenithar:
oh i know!! never try doing artwrk while listenign to opera-yet somehwo my sister can accomplish that...yeah, even with a subwoofer, i doubt you could get the feeling youd get if listening to opera live-id love to see it live....maybe one day, when im older and like opera a littel more! :D

Not too many though!

No, sorry :(

I haven't so I can't really speak about watching it live. I just don't like lyrical singing too much :(
:iconsindae:
Ah, why don't you like lyrical singing? I know some complain about it sounding unnatural, but that's really the whole point of opera. It's supposed to be larger than life, transcending normal vocality.
:iconsindae:
I dunno, I could see doing some art while listening to opera, but I don't think it would be as enjoyable to listen to. Usually when I paint I get something with emotion similar to what I want to depict.
:iconthorn-zenithar:
cool.

depending on who i want to draw, i listen to different music. Three Days Grace and Nickelback help with drawing Petro-hes my main comic character. Italian/Canadian cutey goth with red hair!

hmmmm, i must try to find that CD with teh awesome Opera on it.....

Which CD? I'd recommend, if you don't want a whole opera, to find a collection of arias from Mozart operas. They're definitely some of the best.
